HNL is an approach to leadership wherein leaders intentionally subordinate themselves to those in their charge, balancing the needs of the organization with the impact those needs are going to have on the employees in order to arrive at the desired outcome.
This course is divided into 3 sections to help you navigate:
- Session 1: Negotiating Up & Down - Negotiating with subordinates & what is HNP & its framework
- Session 2: Managing Up - Tactical Empathy for managing Up and how to present bad news to someone
- Session 3: Team Negotiations - Key roles in a negotiation team and what is the situation board while building your strategy
Derek Gaunt is an instructor, negotiation coach, and author of Ego, Authority, Failure. With 29 years of law enforcement experience, 20 of which as a team member, leader, and then commander of hostage negotiations teams in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
As a member of the Black Swan Group, he is a negotiation trainer and personal coach. Derek has trained throughout the US and around the world, instructing business organizations on how to apply hostage negotiation practices and principles to their world. Derek presents seminars and in-house training programs in a variety of environments. His presentations are engaging and filled with useful techniques for understanding human behavior and navigating difficult conversations. His training has helped leaders and their organizations increase their performance by changing the way they think about communicating one person to another.
